This year's series of DZ HYP's annual kick-off events came to a successful close with the New Year reception at Frankfurt's Palmengarten on January 23. A total of around 2,200 guests accepted the invitations to Hamburg, Munich, Düsseldorf and Stuttgart, as well as to the Main. With its New Year receptions, DZ HYP, together with various real estate associations and co-organizers, has established a format that focuses on personal exchange among real estate industry players. At all locations, it was clear that this networking is perceived as very valuable.
Sabine Barthauer, Chair of the Management Board of DZ HYP, welcomed the participants at all events. Among other things, she emphasized the far-reaching transformation of the industry, at the center of which are the megatrends of “sustainability” and “digitalization”. She also addressed the question of how real estate can become more sustainable, both ecologically and socially. She was also pleased about the numerous representatives of the Genossenschaftliche FinanzGruppe who had accepted the invitation.
The keynote speeches were the central program items. At the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, economist and President of the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, Prof. Dr. Moritz Schularick, took a look at the German residential real estate market. He called for the lack of adequate living space to be seen much more as an economic challenge than as a socio-political one. He was followed by Ingo Zamperoni, a well-known TV journalist and expert on the USA, in Munich. He explained to the guests how Trump's election victory could come about and emphasized that the United States will now primarily take care of itself. In Düsseldorf and at the GENO building in Stuttgart, guests were able to take a mental journey into the circular economy. Under the bold title “Real estate doesn't exist”, architect and pioneer of circular building Thomas M. Rau, appealed to those present to create an economic system in which materials return to the producer after use. He said that building materials should be seen as “limited editions”, similar to art. Finally, Prof. Dr. Sebastian Heilmann, an internationally renowned China researcher, gave an impressive explanation in Frankfurt of the consequences of the tension in which Europe finds itself between the USA and China. He highlighted specific areas for action to help us catch up on the current backlog, for example in digitalization, in order to lead Europe into a “performance and knowledge society in the AI age”.
